POSITION SUMMARY

Carries out scientific assistant and clerical duties related to the provision of client care. Functions in accordance with local, SMF Policies and Treatments, and care center requirements. Performs all medical responsibilities under the instructions of a clinician. Carries out lab treatments in phlebotomy and specimen handling to protect specimen integrity. These treatments exclude any that just licensed personnel under state licensure policies carry out. This position is appointed to the Urgent Care center, however might work in any SMF care center to efficiently support client care and company requirements on an as needed basis.

Principal Responsibilities

Assists clinicians and patients to ensure effective circulation constant with care center service requirements.

Completes regular blood collection within 5 minutes and tough cases in 15 minutes. Completes treatments scheduled throughout shift and maintains high quality of work. Follows through on tests and procedures left from a previous shift, and reports any incomplete assignments to guarantee connection of procedures. Coordinates tests to attain maximum efficiency and effectiveness throughout designated shift. Receives written or electronic demands from doctor for regular or unique lab tests.

Greets patients in a courteous way by introducing self and asking client to give their name and date of birth. Verifies right patient by inspecting the name and date of birth on demand with the name and date of birth offered by the patient before the procedure is started.

Keeps client medical records by properly recording actions and charting diagnostic test results.

Maintains phlebotomy tray in a hygienic and effectively provided condition at all times. Uses appropriate method in obtaining blood samples. Labels the test tube right away after procedure is completed with client name, date of birth, date, time, and initials. Disposes of utilized needles after usage in appropriate containers and does not recap needles. Labels specimens, and files reports without errors.

Carries out clerical responsibilities associated with patient scheduling, patient authorization, insurance coverage related paperwork, clinician order processing, test outcomes, and client medical records.

Carries out diagnostic tests, administers medications, and collects/prepares specimens as directed by written clinician orders. Prepares patients for exams and treatments.

Properly takes care of medical equipment and carries out maintenance obligations.

Credentials

MINIMUM CREDENTIALS REQUIREMENTS:

Education, consisting of Licensure/ Accreditation/ Registration

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Evidence of graduation from an accredited medical helping program along with recorded proof of 10 clock hours of injection training is needed.
  • BLS Healthcare provider is needed.
  • Should have passed the SMF Pre-Screen Test for Clinical Assistants prior to work with. New work with clinical training and screening and Fundamental Skills Evaluation annually thereafter.
  • Needs To have a State of California Phlebotomy I; CPT II is preferred.
  • Accreditation as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or eligibility for accreditation preferred.

Experience

  • Two-Three (2-3) years of previous practical experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician’s office is chosen
  • Minimum of six months experience with effective venipunctures is required.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of scope of practice for Medical Assistants in the State of California. Knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations. Understanding of medical procedures for vital indications. Knowledge of typical values for vital indications (Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respirations, Temperature). Understanding of medical placing for clients.
  • Knowledge of scheduling practices/referrals for physician workplaces chosen. Knowledge of efficient teamwork characteristics in between front and back office staff. Needed BAT Testing, Drug Screens and Mask Fit Test certifications must be completed within 6 months of hire date.
  • Enough knowledge of medical terminology and the English language, to comprehend and interact in a sensible way, the responsibilities of the position.
