S.Korea mobilizes military in Seoul as coronavirus cases rise, deaths rise

SEOUL– South Korea will activate military forces in the capital Seoul to assist frontline health employees handle a rise in coronavirus, with 689 brand-new cases reported on Friday, and as the death toll and variety of patients in vital care increased.

Of the brand-new cases, 673 were locally transferred, which brings the total tally to 40,786, the Korea Illness Control and Avoidance Company (KDCA) said. The death toll increased by eight to 572 deaths, KDCA reported.

The surge in cases has provided a blow to South Korea’s vaunted pandemic-fighting system which successfully utilized intrusive tracing, screening and quarantine to avoid lockdowns and blunt previous waves, and keep infections below 50 per day for much of the summer season.

The authorities scrambled to develop healthcare facility beds in shipping containers today to alleviate pressures on medical centers extended by the latest coronavirus wave.

The number of clients in major or extreme conditions have grown near 170, prompting the health authorities to seek more beds nationwide.

Calling the present wave a critical crisis, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said he will dispatch around 800 military, cops and federal government employees in every district of the higher Seoul location to help find potential patients.
