Report: Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev postponed after Edwards tests positive for COVID

The Leon Edwards versus Khamzat Chimaev fight will no longer take place on December 19.

Unfortunately, Edwards has tested positive for the coronavirus and will be unable to complete on the proposed date, per Ariel Helwani of ESPN The UFC are going to seek to rebook the set early next year.

It’s a terrible blow for Edwards, who’s 2020 has actually been completely hindered due to the pandemic, with a title eliminator against Tyron Woodley being ditched back in March. Since then, Edwards has been waiting for a huge name challenger, eventually consenting to fight the quickly rising Chimaev, who has demolished everybody in his course given that showing up in the promotion in the summer season.

The winner was likely going to remain in contention to face the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns for the welterweight title.
