Principal Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Performs successful venipuncture, micro-procedure and bleeding times utilizing recognized procedures on adult and pediatric clients
- Interviews and signs up outpatients precisely in the HIS, recognizing the usage of the alternate guarantor for geriatric clients, acquiring the correct insurance details and client signature on any necessary kinds by using the Compliance Checker as appropriate
- Follows recognized treatments for proper identification of clients, greeting all patients in a courteous way introducing self and calling patient by name
- Appropriately labels and processes client specimens prior to arrival in scientific lab
- Demonstrates abilities and knowledge required to provide care proper to adult and geriatric patients, consisting of the ability to obtain and translate info to recognize patient needs, and to provide the care needed
- Translates physician’s oral and written test orders in an accurate manner
- Follows-up with doctor’s office to clarify any confusion or question, consisting of resolution of any medical requirement and/or medical diagnosis problems
- Deals with all telephone requests in a courteous manner, documenting the call
- Chooses appropriate encounter and orders lab tests properly in the LIS
- Functions cooperatively with lead phlebotomy expert and co-workers and maintains a great connection with other departments
- Carries out successful heelsticks, utilizing recognized procedures, on neonates and babies
- Plates client specimens for microbiology cultures
- Transports patient specimens to medical lab as essential
- Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT) on Glucose ToleranceTest (GTT) patients
- Rotates working schedule as needed within CCHS as needed
- Keeps daily log sheets
- Collects master white billing types and delivers to Cashier
- Keeps products and adequate inventory of medications
- Reviews Safety manual and Infection Control manual every year.
- Finishes all compulsory in-service education
- Participates in departmental in-service conferences as needed
- Performs assigned work safely, sticking to recognized departmental security rules and practices. Reports to manager, in a timely manner, any hazardous activities, conditions, hazards, or security offenses that may trigger injury to oneself, other workers, patients and visitors
- Performs other related tasks as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Effective conclusion of a Phlebotomy Training Program needed; or at least one year of equivalent phlebotomy experience
- Experience needed in the following: performing phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture, finger and heel stick
- Experience with patient registration and test order entry
- Experience and understanding of insurances
- Capability to translate company’s oral and written test orders
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Ability in social relations; setting a client at ease, connecting with kids
- Capability to work out good judgment in coordinating phlebotomy collections in an effective way
- BLS (CPR) Accreditation required; or need to obtain within 60 days of hire
