Coronavirus threatens joyful season in Lebanon

BEIRUT: The two-week lockdown in Lebanon to restrict the spread of coronavirus ends on Sunday, but the ongoing high variety of infections and deaths might limit the choices of the government committee tasked with bring back typical life in the nation.

On Saturday, owners of stores, stores, restaurants and cafes objected against procedures that would keep their companies closed, especially as the profitable joyful season techniques.

” If the state decides to continue closing our organizations throughout the joyful season, these traveler facilities will state their bankruptcy,” Jean Beirouti, secretary-general of the Federation of Tourist Trade Unions, told Arab News.

Darkness prevails in Beirut markets that are usually vibrant at this time of year. “Black Friday didn’t trigger any commercial motion,” Yehya Kasaa, chairman of the Lebanese Franchise Association, informed Arab News.

” We don’t know how long it will be possible to hold out if a great government isn’t formed. Politics in Lebanon is combating the economy,” he said.

” Staying at home certainly offers safety for everybody, but in a country like Lebanon, which suffers financially, it’s impossible. People need to work and make their day-to-day living,” he included.

” The franchise sector used to supply work for 100,000 workers.

As of Saturday early morning, there were more than 35,000 offenses of the lockdown recorded by security forces.

” Individuals are groaning from the difficult economic circumstance we’re in,” stated Col. Joseph Mousallem, head of the Information Branch at the Internal Security Forces.

” The decrease in the number of infections hoped by the Ministry of Health didn’t take place during the lockdown.”
