Description

TASK DESCRIPTION: Collects, labels and procedures client specimens for screening. Maintains computerized records, deals with, and troubleshoots impressive specimen/collections. Keeps the stock of typically utilized materials, carrying out regular assessments of supply levels to ensure their immediate accessibility. Collects utilized glassware and processes it through washing and drying procedures. Carries out quality control checks on clean glass wares and disperses the tidy glass wares to proper sections. Carries out preventive upkeep on devices. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Participates in academic in-services as appropriate. Practices universal safety measures, barrier defense techniques, infection control and isolation procedures when working with body fluids and other contagion to ensure a safe workplace. Collects and receives specimens. Reviews test requisitions and specimen labels for accurate info and orders tests properly: acts on all tests with incomplete information or questionable test orders. Starts intervention on inappropriate specimens, as required. Procedures all emergency orders (STATS within the required time frame. Protects the integrity of each sample prior to distributing them to the appropriate department. Participates in quality enhancement activities as it relates to phlebotomy, processing and transportation of samples. Identifies, comprehends, and files issues, issues, and opportunities and intensifying to supervisory when suitable. Carries out standard clerical responsibilities as required. Sticks to strict healthcare facility protocol regarding patient recognition; makes sure that each patient is favorably determined prior to registration treatments and specimen collection. Gathers client blood samples by performing venipunctures as purchased and within the prescribed time-frame following rigorous medical protocol. Labels each specimen properly according to recognized laboratory procedures prior to processing. Offers clients and outreach customers instruction as necessary regarding specimen collection.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer 2 years phlebotomy health center experience. Basic computer system skills and medical terms. Phlebotomy certificate preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 pounds; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (often); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects as much as 25 pounds; Occasional to regular standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computer systems, typing, reading, composing), Physical needs may vary depending upon assigned workspace and work jobs.
