POSITION SUMMARY:

Carries out a wide range of support functions for the Lab and Laboratory Service Areas. This position needs skills in some or all of the following functional areas: phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, specimen collection and preparation tasks. Maintains required proficiency abilities in the required areas of expertise required for the specific work area.

This position is 32 hrs/week, 6am-2: 30 pm situated at Lancaster General Medical Facility. Every other weekend and vacation. On-call on a rotating basis. Located at Lancaster General Healthcare Facility.

VITAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals need to have the capability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to carry out the following duties:

  • Performs venipuncture and capillary specimen collection in an ambulatory and medical facility setting.
  • Validates client identity, specimen integrity and maintains working understanding of specimen requirements and special protocols.
  • Documents all phases of specimen collection in needed computer system systems consisting of examining orders, “receiving” specimens, canceling tests, running collection lists and producing and utilizing reconciliation reports.
  • Supply mentorship and oversight for new staff members and clinical interns.
  • Arranges appointed workload and performs suitable jobs satisfying established productivity requirements in phlebotomy and point of care testing.
  • Demonstrates the Lancaster General Health Center Standards of Efficiency in dealing with clients, visitors, and coworkers.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following responsibilities are thought about secondary to the main tasks listed above:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is needed.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, if performing off-site phlebotomy, is needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Six (6) months work in a healthcare setting.
  • Typing ability of a minimum of 50 wpm.
  • Experience in carrying out phlebotomy and/or point of care testing.
  • Licensure as a Phlebotomy Professional, PBT (ASCP).
  • CPR accreditation.
