JOB SUMMARY:

The phlebotomists at Penn State Health carry out venous and capillary blood collections from inpatients and outpatients and receive other laboratory specimens (24 hour urine containers, sputum and stool specimens), and splitting of random urine specimens. Phlebotomists also enter, confirm, and upgrade client market and insurance coverage details into numerous internal details systems. In addition, they carry out and report bedside glucose screening. Phlebotomists likewise provide training and watching experiences for nurses, EMT’s, Medical Trainees, Medical Assistants, and other students as asked for.

MINIMUM CREDENTIALS:

High School Diploma or GED needed.

6 months phlebotomy experience needed OR conclusion of an internship through a qualified training program needed

Capability to check out, understand and follow spoken and written directions.

Simple use of formulas, charts, tables, requirements and schedules.

Must possess outstanding social abilities to communicate with clients.

Hands on phlebotomy abilities need to be shown on volunteer.

PREFERRED CREDENTIALS:

Bedside glucose and pediatric collection experience chosen.

Phlebotomy Certification preferred.

General computer abilities and additional language abilities (ie Spanish) chosen

CPR certification preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to stand and stroll regularly; sit sometimes.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 constantly; 21-50 lbs sometimes.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs regularly.

Able to climb sometimes; reach constantly.

Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
