A phlebotomist is trained to make a cut in a vein with a needle to draw blood from a client for diagnostic and other medical purposes. Postsecondary phlebotomy programs are readily available in neighborhood colleges and professional schools. Professional certification in Ohio is through the American Society of Medical Specialists.
