Christmas has come early for Pimpama aged care resident Jay Jones, 92, thanks to two eager beaver mums and innovative young children.
Bree Thompson and Suzanne Guastini arranged workshops where local kids make hand made Christmas cards to be provided to locals of a local aged care center that consists of Mrs Jones.
She checked out one of the workshops where 6 toddlers were eagerly colouring in and putting several Santa stamps on cards.
Out of lockdown in grand design
Mrs Jones made a grand entryway wearing a Santa hat and transported by a helper in a tricycle festooned with Christmas designs.
Just getting out was a treat not to mention satisfying young children who were making something for her.
” I have actually been here (in the retirement home) for 6 months and I’ve not been out the door, so this is a real adventure for me.”
Even the local Male’s Shed got involved making a Santa mailbox where the children “post” the cards.
Ms Guastini will let the nursing home understand when there is mail and the Christmas tricycle will be wheeled out for a collection run.
” So it’s a chance for them to go out and about.” she said.
” We’re thrilled that people see the advantage and comprehend, and want to create those relationships.”
The supreme aim of this pen buddy relationship is for the kids to eventually check out the aged care home.
Drawing the line under 2020
Bree Thompson said her plan has been delayed for months due to the fact that of coronavirus limitations.
” I wished to unite the youth of our neighborhood and the homeowners of aged care Pimpama to assist bridge intergenerational separation in our community which can be such a big problem in Australia.”
Local Mum Bree Sutton was eager for daughter Georgia to participate in the do-gooder project.
Jay Jones’ happiness at this easy gesture joining Pimpama children and the senior was benefit enough for the two go getter Mum’s.
An unique way to mark completion of the 2020 Annus horribilis.
” Good for them and good for us. It’s not been a great year has it?” Mrs Jones stated.
