What You’ll Do

Summary:

Functions under the basic guidance of the Lead Phlebotomist, Phlebotomy Planner or Laboratory Supervisor this employee draws blood from clients in the doctor’s office or similar facility for analysis or other medical purposes.

Duties:

1. Greet patient, inspect them into IDX, verify and release laboratories from Impressive, verify treatment and examine laboratories into the Laboratory Information System. Get ABN if required

2. Assemble devices such as tourniquet, needles, non reusable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for defined test or procedures

3. Confirm or tape determine of client or donor and reverse with patient to ease fear of treatment

4. Apply tourniquet to arm, locate accessible vein, swab puncture area with antiseptic and insert needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube

5. Withdraw needle, use treatment to leak website and label and shop blood container for subsequent processing

6. Puncture finger to draw blood

7. Scan Waivers

8. Tidy work area/stock

9. Help train brand-new employees/students

10. Scheduling/rescheduling patients, absences

11. Confirming orders remain in Epic

12. Processing specimens and preparing for carrying specimens

13. Depending upon location carries out POC testing and Quality Controls

Other information:

Experience: Conclusion of a recognized phlebotomy program or 1 year of phlebotomy experience required. Experience related to customer care and quality patient care preferred. Shows requirements of performance (ownership, team effort, interaction, empathy) that support client fulfillment and principles of service quality.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

Person will have commensurate mix of education, experience and credentials.
