From transporting and establishing blood collection devices at work websites, to drawing blood from donors, as a Phlebotomist with the American Red Cross you will work all elements of blood drives at schools, workplaces & churches throughout Grand Island and the surrounding locations.
No experience essential– our paid training is a mix of classroom guideline and field practice.

Phlebotomist Task Duties
- Balance production, donor care & quality requirements to satisfy everyday blood collection goals
- Make the effort to personally get in touch with donors– listen to their stories and assist them comprehend the value of their donation
- Be information oriented all day, every day, to make sure that the blood you collect satisfies regulatory requirements and can be securely transfused
- Remain flexible to work a highly variable schedule that includes early start times, late end times, weekends & vacations to satisfy the needs of our blood drive sponsors and donors.
- Look after your staff member– show up for every shift and give 100% while you exist
- Add to a friendly and enjoyable environment. Team up with your colleagues to keep our donors coming back once again and once again
- Interact in a positive, proactive and customer-focused way with both internal and external customers, showing care and empathy at all times
The previously mentioned duties of the Phlebotomist describe the basic nature and level of work and are not an exhaustive list.
Phlebotomist Task Certifications
- High school diploma or comparable needed
- Customer care experience, efficient verbal interaction, and public relations abilities are required
- Ability to load and dump cars with or without reasonable lodging
- Medical assistant or phlebotomy training preferred but not required
- A current, valid motorist’s license and great driving record is needed
- Basic computer system abilities are required
- Physical requirements may include the capability to lift-up to 50 lbs., periodically physically helping donors experiencing an unfavorable response, along with pushing or pulling heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs (potentially as much as 250 lbs in weight and with approximately 75- degree angles). Physical requirements might be carried out in adverse climate condition.
- All personnel work as a group to setup and tear down the equipment needed to carry out a mobile blood drive. This involves loading/unloading of vehicles, pressing carts approximately 250 lbs, establishing beds and handling numerous totes including devices and snacks for the donors.
- Flexibility to work long, irregular hours and regular schedule changes is required.
SCHEDULING: Red Cross collects blood throughout the week, on weekends and holidays. Red Cross supplies work schedules 3 weeks beforehand, although changes may be necessary. Prospects must confirm schedule for versatility in scheduling.
