Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF) is a non-profit, multi-specialty healthcare organization affiliated with Sutter Health. Based in Modesto, SGMF offers quality medical care, health education and research study activities in a five-county Central Valley area. SGMF’s medical personnel consists of household professionals, internists and pediatricians, along with a variety of specialist physicians. Services include imaging, nuclear medicine, a health library, health education programs, occupational medicine, heart rehab, diabetes education, nutrition therapy, infertility counseling, weight management.

With the implementation of the Sutter Health Core lab– IRL Relationship, the Phlebotomist/Lab Receptionist or Specimen position description is continuously evolving. All tasks are carried out by all workers.

  • Reception tasks consist of welcoming and checking patients into the Lab and going into all relevant data into the (LIS) lab computer system. Either bringing across Physician Orders that live in LEGENDARY into the LIS (Misys) or manually going into client orders into Misys for outside providers.
  • Phlebotomy as ordered will be carried out on all clients according to test requirements and laboratory procedure.
  • The Specimen Processor/ Phlebotomist/Receptionist at the SGMF Lab Care Center Draw Stations under the direction of the SGMF Clinical Laboratory Director will carry out all pre-analytic procedures for screening at Gould Medical Structure, or the Reference Lab. This position will likewise process specimens for Transport; and might or may not be involved with Tracking, Result Receipt Confirmation, Report Circulation and involved billing validation. Will carry out phlebotomy.
  • The PM-Weekend

will in addition to the above, process microbiology specimens for transport to the recommendation laboratory in the late afternoon through 9: 00 pm and in between performs phlebotomy draws and reception tasks.

Qualifications

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Effective conclusion of phlebotomy training required.
  • Should have a legitimate Licensed Phlebotomy Technician I Certificate, provided by the CA State Dept. of Health Solutions; requirements for which are developed by the CA Administration Code 1034, April 4,2003 Present BLS for Healthcare Providers card required.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in Phlebotomy, Lab Assisting, Specimen Processing information entry/computer experience in a scientific or healthcare facility setting is chosen.
  • One year experience preferred.

Understanding:

  • Need to be well versed in all elements of Office Procedures, Phlebotomy, Medical Terminology as referring to lab testing requirements and processing.
  • Should have established computer system abilities with LIS experience preferred. Need to be experienced on all elements of medical blood draws.

Unique Skills/Equipment:

  • Proven ability to plan, arrange work activities, and prioritize multiple procedures concurrently for maximum effectiveness.
  • Should possess spoken and written interaction abilities and be able to fix problems over the phone. Need to be customer support oriented and a group player.
